Exclusive: Christian Falk breaks down how Nottingham Forest reached the blockbuster transfer.

Nottingham Forest have signed Giovanni Reyna, a highly rated Borussia Dortmund prospect, on loan.

The USMNT player joins for the balance of the season, with the Tricky Trees expected to cover his whole wage during that time.

Christian Falk, BILD’s head of sport, exclusively revealed CaughtOffside that BVB will get a €1 million loan fee as part of the loan agreement. Furthermore, it is understood that the relegation-threatened club will pay the attacking midfielder’s whole salary (approximately €5 million per year).

To protect Reyna’s worth, Dortmund extended his contract by a year before agreeing on the loan, extending his present terms until summer 2026.

The 21-year-old will undoubtedly be hoping to revive a career that has fallen by the wayside in recent years, with only 360 minutes of professional football played in 2023-24.

If the American’s stint in England is successful, there is no clear path for Nottingham to make the transaction permanent, as both teams are unable to agree on a buy option.

With Reyna falling behind in the pecking order at Signal Iduna Park to the likes of Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Co., it would be unsurprising if Dortmund took advantage of any prospective sale.
