Bears Hire Jason Houghtaling As Assistant Offensive Line Coach

Bears hire Jason Houghtaling as Assistant Offensive Line Coach.

The Chicago Bears will add another assistant coach to Matt Eberflus’ staff, this time on the offensive line. According to NFL source Tom Pelissero, the Bears will hire Jason Houghtaling as an assistant offensive line coach.

Who is Jason Houghtaling?
Jason Houghtaling has spent the past three seasons with the Tennessee Titans. He was hired as an assistant offensive line coach in 2021 and became the only offensive line coach by 2023.

The majority of his coaching career was spent at the college level. Houghtaling has been coaching running backs at Wagner since 2006. He also worked with the offensive line at Wagner before moving on to become the offensive coordinator at Williams.

However, Houghtaling returned after just one year to become Wagner’s offensive coordinator. After one season, he went for the same role at Cornell, which did not work out.

He returned to Wagner as an assistant coach and was elevated to head coach after one year, where he remained until 2019. Following his career, he spent a year coaching the offensive line at Colgate.

When Jason Houghtaling arrived in the NFL, he remained there. The Tennessee Titans’ offensive line gave enough cushion for a quality running back like Derrick Henry to succeed. However, entering the last week of the 2023 regular season, the Titans were ranked last in the overall offensive line.

They had given up seven sacks to the Houston Texans the week before, and following an upset victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 18, Tennessee severed company with Houghtaling.

The Chicago Bears are virtually finished finalising their roster as the offseason unfolds, and Matt Eberflus may move on to the next step.
