According to ESPN, the Chicago Bears are expected to trade Justin Fields to the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Chicago Bears are examining quarterback alternatives for the 2024 season. This offseason, the Bears have kept their intentions for Justin Fields under wraps. The Bears will have to decide whether to keep Fields or use the first selection in the 2024 draft to replace him.
The Chicago Bears have a few decisions to make this spring
Ryan Poles, the Bears’ general manager, has a number of options before the April draft. The Bears could keep Fields while trading the first overall selection for a king’s ransom to build around their franchise quarterback. The Bears may also trade Fields for draft cash to help build around Caleb Williams, the presumed top quarterback prospect in the draft.
ESPN links Justin Fields to Las Vegas
ESPN recently published an article estimating where the quarterback market will go. According to Paul Gutierrez and Courtney Cronin, Fields’ trade to the Las Vegas Raiders appears to be the most natural fit for the former 2021 first-round pick this offseason:
“The Raiders’ offer: In this scenario, the Raiders would offer Fields second- and seventh-round draft picks in 2024. Champ Kelly, the Bears’ interim general manager in the second half of the 2023 season, was with the team when Fields was drafted, and while Tom Telesco was hired as general manager, Kelly stays with Las Vegas as assistant GM.
Some of this could depend on how Telesco and whoever the Raiders pick as offensive coordinator perceive Fields. Fields, a three-year NFL veteran younger than rookie Aidan O’Connell, is on his rookie deal and under team control for the next two years, making it financially advantageous for the Raiders.
Why the Bears Agreed: Chicago general manager Ryan Poles has often noted the Bears’ “unique” situation this offseason with the No. 1 pick, which they did not earn via their own record (Carolina’s pick).
The Bears have the opportunity to add the top quarterback in the draft class to a squad with a strong offensive foundation and one of the league’s best defences, potentially transforming them into a contender by next season.
So, while the Bears may or may not want to trade Fields, if they receive an offer like this one — which allows them to recoup an early second-round draft pick — they will have a difficult time declining. — Courtney Cronin, Bears reporter.
ESPN trade proposal projection
The Bears obtain the 44th overall pick and the seventh round pick.
Raiders receive Fields.
The Raiders need a quarterback for the 2024 season and beyond. O’Connell does not appear to be a long-term starter for the Oakland Raiders. Unfortunately, Las Vegas won too many games in 2023 to compete for a top quarterback prospect.
Fields may have become the Bears’ franchise quarterback if the Carolina Panthers’ incompetence had not resulted in their receiving the first overall pick in the draft. Fields might use a new beginning with the Raiders.
The Bears would benefit from acquiring a second-round draft pick for Fields. The Bears might utilise that choice to improve their interior offensive line or to add a wide receiver for their rookie quarterback to pass to.
