Former Spurs talent set for Sunderland medical today, with 7-figure price revealed.

Sunderland are preparing to complete a seven-figure transfer soon before deadline day.

Sunderland appear to be having a successful conclusion to the January transfer season, with Leo Hjelde having arrived and another, Romaine Mundle, set to sign.

The former Spurs player presently plays in Belgium for Standard Liege, but Fabrizio Romano revealed last night that Sunderland have agreed to buy the 20-year-old.

And now Keith Downie has revealed that the 20-year-old is on his way to Wearside for a physical ahead of a £2 million deal.

Sunderland has had a somewhat active 24 hours.

They signed Hjelde as their first January signing, while Alex Pritchard’s move to Birmingham City is almost complete.

And now the team has moved quickly to finalize a deal for Mundle.

According to Sky Sports reporter Downie, Mundle is currently traveling into England to have his medical at Sunderland, and the Black Cats are paying £2 million for his services.

Mundle appears to be Michael Beale’s second acquisition as Sunderland manager, and the under-fire 43-year-old will undoubtedly be happy with his club’s late action in the transfer market this month.

Beale relieved some of the burden on his shoulders with a 3-1 victory over Stoke City in the Championship last time around.

It put Sunderland in seventh place in the table, tied on points with Coventry City in sixth, but trailing on goal difference.

The Black Cats are cooking now

Sunderland has had a difficult few weeks, with the management change and backlash, as well as a dearth of January transfer activity up to this point.

However, Sunderland’s owners remain extremely ambitious, and Mundle’s £2 million cost reflects this.

The club will have done their due investigation on the player, and given that Sunderland rarely spends this much money, they must be confident in Mundle’s abilities and future potential.

He enters at a time when Jack Clarke is highly connected with a move away, therefore Mundle might be considered as a long-term replacement for him.

And he has large shoes to fill if that’s the case, but the second half of the season will be about reintroducing Mundle to the first-team picture and Championship football following a difficult couple of years for the ex-Spurs player.

Sunderland face Middlesbrough in the Championship this weekend.
