Patrick Mahomes was angered by Justin Tucker’s theatrics when he argued with the Baltimore Ravens kicker and Travis Kelce ahead of the AFC Championship Game.
Patrick Mahomes accused Justin Tucker of attempting to ‘get under our skin’.
This follows a fight with the two-time MVP and Travis Kelce before to the AFC Championship. On Sunday night, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Baltimore Ravens 17-10 in the AFC Championship Game at M&T Bank Stadium.
Mahomes was fantastic, completing 30 of 39 throws for 241 yards and one touchdown. This victory propels the Chiefs to their fourth Super Bowl appearance in five seasons, but Mahomes was irritated by Tucker’s pregame theatrics. Kelce expressed concern about Tucker’s choice of practice location while players were warming up on the pitch in Baltimore.
Kelce kicked away Tucker’s teed-up ball and flung the remainder of his practice balls to the side while Mahomes threw passes from the Ravens end zone, where Tucker was set up. He even took up Tucker’s helmet and chucked it away.
Patrick Mahomes chastised Ravens kicker Justin Tucker for not moving during his warmup. In an interview with 610 Sports Radio, he stated, “I’ve had seven years of doing that same warmup routine and there’s only been about three occasions where a kicker wasn’t moving out of the way.” It was in Baltimore three times.”
He also stated that Tucker’s activities were intended to irritate them, saying, “He does that to get under our skin. I requested him to move his stuff, and he got up and moved it about two inches but did not move it out of the way. I was about to let it slip, but Travis moved it for me, and I wasn’t going to let him put it back down.
“I have a lot of respect for him as a player and kicker. He is one of, if not the finest, kickers of all time. At the same time, you must show respect for each team. We all share the field and attempt to do it in a respectful manner.
The NFL reported an unusual event before the official warm-up, during which players are typically restricted to their own 45-yard lines. Tucker was seen in the end zone, where Mahomes was warming up, without a kickoff tee, implying he was attempting 110-yard field goals.
Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes matched up well, with Kelce leading the Chiefs in receiving with 11 catches for 116 yards and a touchdown. He also beat Jerry Rice’s NFL postseason record of 151 receptions. In contrast, Baltimore lacked discipline in the AFC Championship, incurring five costly personal fouls.
The Chiefs will face the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII, a repeat of Super Bowl LIV, on Sunday, Feb. 11.
