Alan Stubbs pursues Premier League following appeal verdict, saying it ‘horribly wrong’.
Everton have received a positive outcome from their points deduction appeal, according to BBC Sport analyst Alan Stubbs.
However, the former Goodison Park defender believes the Premier League has handled the situation “atrociously.”
The Toffees received a 10-point deduction for financial violations earlier this season, but the penalty has subsequently been reduced to six points.
“I think it’s been handled atrociously by the Premier League, and they’ve got it horribly wrong,” Stubbs told BBC Radio Merseyside (26 February).
“The result is a positive for Everton, but then before you know it you start thinking about the second charge and what that entails.”
Everton move up the Premier League rankings following the appeal ruling.
Everyone at the Merseyside club was waiting to hear the decision of the 10-point deduction appeal.
And it has certainly been a successful one, with the punishment being significantly reduced, resulting in the club moving from 17th to 15th in the Premier League standings.
Toffees manager Sean Dyche and his players would have wanted to have received more points back, especially given their current poor form.
However, they should be more than delighted with this result, which should give the team a boost as they continue their push away from the relegation zone.
Dyche must now collect his squad and urge them to reconsider their approach on the pitch, as a dreaded drop to the Championship remains on the horizon despite the positive appeal verdict.
Following this news, the clubs around them may step up their game, with Brentford and Nottingham Forest needing only one or two positive results to surpass the Toffees.
