Exclusive: Wyness shares intriguing verdict on Everton appealing again – ‘we’re not finished yet’
Former Everton manager Keith Wyness has argued that the club “may not be finished yet” despite the Premier League’s appeal decision on Monday (26 February).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the 66-year-old, who was CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009 and now operates a football consultancy advising elite clubs, said the club may contest some aspects of the appeal ruling with the Premier League.
On Monday (26 February), Everton’s deduction for violating the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) was lowered from ten to six points following an appeal.
The Premier League upheld two of Everton’s nine objections regarding their 10-point punishment, but rejected the remaining seven and did not make those information public.
We may not be finished yet’, says former Everton chief after appeal verdict
Sean Dyche’s side might face additional penalty for a different violation of PSR regulations, with a hearing scheduled before the end of the 2023-24 season.
Wyness told Football Insider, “I believe the club will err on the side of accepting the appeal decision and moving forward.”
But we may not be done yet.
“With a second case pending and a potential second fine, there may be aspects that the club wishes to clarify and dispute again with the Premier League.
That seems to be the only option to avoid a second sanction.
“Admitting that they’ve made two massive errors is bad for the Premier League.
“Certainly, the time this process has taken, as I’ve stated on multiple times, is quite upsetting.
I can’t judge how wonderful the outcome is until we learn more about the appeal’s specifics.
“We require complete transparency, and it has been severely missing. It’s not quite good enough.”
