The Bills are currently debating if Sean McDermott will continue to call defensive plays in 2024.

When former defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier and the Bills parted ways in February, the team did not replace him for the 2023 season.

Instead, head coach Sean McDermott became the team’s defensive play-caller.

The Bills announced Bobby Babich’s promotion from linebackers coach to defensive coordinator on Tuesday. However, as Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN points out, Buffalo has yet to decide whether McDermott or Babich would call the defensive plays in 2024.

Last week, General Manager Brandon Beane stated that the organisation is open to whatever McDermott wants to accomplish.

“If [McDermott] feels he needs to put someone else to call the plays, we would do that,” Beane told Getzengberg. “If he says, ‘Man, yeah, I can do this. I want to do it again,’ then we’d go that because… there was nothing that made me think he couldn’t wear both hats.

The Bills concluded the 2023 regular season ranked fourth in points allowed and ninth in yards allowed.
