The Detroit Lions will try to improve on their overachieving 2023 season, and they have a good chance of doing so after retaining their key core.

Among the squad’s key retainers is offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who was widely expected to leave Ford Field after surpassing preseason expectations. His choice to stay put is a huge boost for Dan Campbell’s Lions team, which is hoping to make the Super Bowl.
Amon-Ra St. Brown explains Johnson’s reasoning for staying with the Detroit Lions.
Amon-Ra St. Brown, the Detroit Lions’ top wide receiver this season, spoke openly about his talk with his offensive coordinator on the latest episode of the St. Brown Brothers podcast. He claimed that he discussed his decision with his head coach before it became public information.

According to Detroit Sports Nation’s W.G. Brady, the All-Pro wide receiver felt it was unfair to leave the Lions behind when they were only a half away from making Super Bowl LVIII:
“He claimed he couldn’t sleep last night. “He was thinking about it, and he said there is unfinished business,” St. Brown explained. “He wants to stay.” He told the guys on the team to shoot. He mentioned me, Jared Goff, Frank Ragnow, Penei Sewell, and Taylor Decker. All the boys. He stated, “My heart is in Detroit, and I want to stay.”

Johnson believes the team can go even further than an NFC Championship, which should be good news for Lions fans. It was also clear in their loss to the San Francisco 49ers that key drops and a few defensive lapses were what prevented them from completing their Cinderella run.
Furthermore, Johnson’s bond with the team’s key offensive players ensures that the synergy they’ve developed this season will continue until 2024. Fans can anticipate Campbell, Johnson, and the rest of the Lions offence to make even more daring plays.

Amon-Ra St. Brown will be a vital component of the offence. His performance as the team’s key target this season was vital to the team’s successful postseason run. He concluded the 2023 season with 1515 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns, earning his first All-Pro nod.

Fans can expect the Detroit Lions to start strong after Johnson and the offence work out their weaknesses in training camp.
